Build Overview
Templars are the holy warriors of the Elder Scrolls Universe. They are able to call upon the power of the Sun itself in order to smite and burn their enemies and heal their allies. Templars are also able to strengthen their friends by restoring Health, Stamina, and Magicka. Magicka Templars excel in dealing Melee and Ranged Damage, and Sustaining that Damage for the whole fight. They are also known for their versatility and abilities which are capable of dealing damage and healing them and their allies at the same time. MT's rotation is regarded as one of the easier ones to learn and master, so this setup is great for players who are still gaining their game experience. Important note: The best Races for Magicka Templars are currently Dunmer, Breton, Khajiit, and Altmer.
We have decided to feature only one item set based on the best items for general usage. There are better setups for certain encounters and tweaks for either Boss fights or AoE clearing. If you would like alternative gear options included please let us know in the comments section below.
Pros | Cons |
Good AoE Damage | Many abilities force static playstyle, which results in low combat mobility |
High Single Target Damage | Rotation must be perfected for the optimal resource management |

Solar Barrage (Templar: Dawn's Wrath, morphed from Solar Flare) - blasts enemies around you with the Solar Energy, dealing Magic Damage every 2s for 6s. Using this also increases the Damage of your next Light Attack used within the uptime by 40%. Good Damaging ability combined with a buff to your Light Attacks. |
Elemental Weapon (Guild: Psijic Order, morphed from Imbue Weapon) - causes your next Light Attack used within 2 seconds to Deal 739 additional Magic Damage. This ability is one of your main Damage sources and should be used to empower your attacks as often as possible without breaking rotation. |
Blazing Spear (Templar: Aedric Spear, morphed from Spear Shards) - you bring down the Divine Wrath, dealing Magic Damage to all enemies within the area, and then more Magic Damage every 1s for 8s. While active, friendlies can activate synergy of the Blessed Shard, and restore Stamina or Magicka (the highest percentage is always chosen). Solid AoE ability which also helps with the Sustain of your group. |
Radiant Oppression (Templar: Dawn's Wrath, morphed from Radiant Destruction) - you burn your enemy with a beam of Holy Fire, dealing high amounts of Magic Damage over 1.8s. This deals up to 480% more Damage to Targets below 50% Health, and inflicts additional Damage proportional to your current Magicka level, for the maximum of 20% additional Damage. Your main finisher, and execute phase spammable ability, its potential Damage to wounded targets is unbelievable. This is also the reason why you should learn how to manage and maintain your resources properly. |
Inner Light (Guild: Mages Guild, morphed from Magelight) - when slotted, it passively increases your Maximum Magicka by 2%, and Spell Critical by 2191. This can be activated in order to reveal Invisible or Stealthed Targets. Inner Light provides you with a strong passive buff which largely contributes to your DPS and adds some Sustain. This also synergizes with the Might of the Guild passive and should be used in order to activate it, preferably before casting an Ultimate. |
Ultimate: Elemental Rage (Weapon: Destruction Staff, morphed from Elemental Storm) - creates the Elemental Cataclysm at the Target area; Cataclysm builds up for 2 seconds, and then deals massive amounts of Magic Damage every second for 7 seconds to all Targets in range. Firey Rage deals 10% additional Damage, Ice Rage freezes enemies in place, and Thunder Rage increases the duration by an additional 2 seconds. Great Burst Damage AoE spell, which combined with the Destruction Expert passive helps you Sustain resources in combat. |
Secondary Skillset
[Fire Staff - AoE/Defense/Sustain Bar]
Channeled Focus (Templar: Restoring Light, morphed from Rune Focus) - you place a defensive rune on the ground. If you stay on it, you will regenerate 240 Magicka every second and gain 5280 Physical and Spell Resistance; this effect persists for up to 8 seconds after leaving the rune. Physical and Spell Resistance buffs are 50% more effective while you remain inside the Rune. |
Elemental Blockade (Weapon: Destruction Staff, morphed from Wall of Elements) - you create an Elemental Barrier by slamming down your Staff. All enemies within the barrier take 198 Magic Damage every Second. Fire blockade deals more Damage to Burning enemies, Frost blockade slows Targets and immobilizes chilled Enemies, and Storm blockade throws concussed enemies off balance. This is a great source of both Single Target and AoE Damage and should be maintained at all times. |
Spell Symmetry (Guild: Mages Guild, morphed from Equilibrium) - you sacrifice 6000 Health to gain 3000 Magicka, activating this also reduces the cost of your next Magicka Ability by 25% for 5s. This also reduces your Healing Done and Damage Shield strength by 50% for 4s. This provides you with good Sustain, but at a cost; use it wisely, because it can get you killed when used just before taking Damage. |
Channeled Acceleration (Guild: Psijic Order, morphed from Accelerate) - when activated, it increases your Movement Speed by 30% for 9 seconds, and Critical Damage by 10% for 36 seconds. A mobility cooldown paired with a minor DPS buff which can somewhat compensate Downtime caused by relocating during an Encounter. |
Harness Magicka (Armor: Light Armor, morphed from Annulment) - Very Strong defensive ability which shields you from incoming Damage, and provides you with some additional Magicka regeneration. It surrounds you with a Magic Barrier which absorbs a maximum of 2715 damage, which is capped at 40% of your Max Health. When this absorbs Spell Damage, you regain 238 Magicka; this effect is increased by 6% for every piece of Light Armor equipped, and cannot occur more than three times per shield. |
Ultimate: Crescent Sweep (Templar: Aedric Spear, morphed from Radial Sweep) - A sweeping blow that deals High Damage to all Enemies around you, and an additional Damage every 2 seconds for 6s to all Targets hit. This deals 60% increased Damage to enemies in front of you. Very powerful Ultimate Ability, especially good when AoE Burst Damage is needed. Thanks to the 60% increased frontal damage effect, this also boosts your Primary Target damage significantly. |
Notable Passive Skills
Below you will find a list of the notable Passive Skills for this build. Please keep in mind that there are dozens of good passive skills for Magicka Builds available in the game, which provides a lot of space for customization, and tweaking. You should view the below-described passive abilities as rough guidelines that should be followed in order to optimize your character.
Prism (Templar: Dawn's Wrath) - your Dawn's Wrath abilities grant you an additional 3 Ultimate; this effect has a 6-second internal cooldown. More Ultimate is always good, and with this passive, you will gain 3 pretty much every 6 seconds.
Illuminate (Templar: Dawn's Wrath) - your Dawn's Wrath abilities now also grant you and your group a 10% Spell Damage buff for the 20s. This provides a great DPS boost to you and every other Magicka user in your group.
Restoring Spirit (Templar: Dawn's Wrath) - Reduces the resource (Ultimate, Magicka, and Stamina) cost of all your abilities by 4%. Great for increased Sustain.
Burning Light (Templar: Aedric Spear) - dealing Damage with an Aedric Spear ability causes you to deal an additional 477 Magic Damage 25% of the time. This effect has a 0.5s internal Cooldown. Aedric Spear abilities are among your main Damage sources, so improving them is just great.
Evocation (Armor: Light Armor) - increases your Magicka recovery by 2% for every piece of Light Armor equipped, and reduces the cost of your Magicka-based abilities by 4%. This will greatly increase your Magicka recovery which in turn will give you much-needed Sustain.
Prodigy (Armor: Light Armor) - increases your Spell Critical by 2191 when you have at least 5 pieces of Light Armor equipped. Damage boosting passive, always good for DPS builds.
Concentration (Armor: Light Armor) - increases your Spell Penetration by 4884 if you have at least 5 pieces of Light Armor equipped. This lets you ignore some of the Enemy's Magic resistances, which in turn increases your Magic Damage done to them.
Ancient Knowledge (Weapon: Destruction Staff) - your Damage done with the Single Target spells is increased by 4% if you have a Flaming Staff equipped. You will have a Flaming Staff equipped, so this is mandatory.
Destruction Expert (Weapon: Destruction Staff) - killing an enemy with Destruction Staff spell, or a Weapon Attack now restores 3600 Magicka. This lets you restore Magicka with your Elemental Rage.
Might of the Guild (Guild: Mages Guild) - Casting a Mages Guild spell now increases the Damage of your next Attack used within 5 seconds by 20%. This has synergy with the Inner Light and should be capitalized on before using an Ultimate.
Undaunted Mettle (Guild: Undaunted) - increases your Maximum Stamina, Health, and Magicka by 2% per type of Armor equipped. More resources equal more Sustain. |

Quick Jump
Templar Guardian
[3.9] PoE Herald of Agony Spectre Guardian Cheap Build
Gems Setup
Body Armour: Herald of AgonyMinion DamageDamage on Full Life EmpowerPierceMaim
Change pierce for vile toxin for single target boss fights. Although very few boss fights don't come with adds, so I just use pierce for everything. To use something like Vicious Projectiles instead of Maim, you will need 36% or more mana reduction on your Circle of Nostalgia if you want to use Hatred plus a second 35% mana reduction aura. With Maim you only need 34%.
Glove: Hatred - Generosity - Enlighten - Flesh and Stone OR Skitter Bot
Glove needs to come with +1 to gem level OR enlighten needs to be level 4, otherwise you will not be able to use Hatred even with full mana reservation skill points until you get Circle of Nostalgia. Once you have all three, you can use Skitter Bot.
Skitterbot (or Discipline) + Dread Banner is a great substitute during leveling before you can turn Hatred on.
Weapon:Poacher's Mark - Desecrate - Spirit Offering
You can use another curse like Projectile Weakness, or a defensive curse like Enfeeble & Temporal Chains. However frenzy charges will add another 25% MORE damage for your crawler so I prefer to use that instead. Since I am now using Spectres and have Onslaught all the times, I use spirit offering as it is a little more damage and provides elemental resistance.
Offhand - Whakatutuki o Matua: Raise Spectres - Meat Shield - Feeding Frenzy
What makes this build special, try it and you will never go back to any other flavor of Herald of Agony!
Helmet: Convocation - Vaal Molten Shell - Increased Duration - Clarity
Add levels to clarity as needed to reserve all except maybe 50 points of your mana, you don't need it until Watcher's Eye.
Boots: Ball of Lightning - Poison Support - Faster Casting - Flame Dash
Herald of Agony itself is 20% poison chance, combined with Poison Support it is already 80% poison chance, with Golden Rule it is enough to keep stacks up. Notice you will need lesser poison support instead of poison support until you can add chaos damage to your spells, Circle of Nostalgia provides this. During leveling you will likely want to have both Poison Support and Lesser Poison Support. Faster Casting is great as it benefits both Ball of Lightning and Flame Dash.

[3.9] Cyclone Summoner - Heralds of Agony and Purity, Summon Holy Relic - League starter
Do you want to play a spicy new build which has the following?
3 new skills
1 new unique item
Damage while moving
Ability to tank the darkness for minutes at a time, ensuring you can always explore those hidden Delve pathways
A summoner that doesn't care about chain
Ability to do all map mods
Then this is the build for you!!
Credit for the original build concept goes to sViin, who's build is the inspiration for this one.
Mechanics
This build uses Cyclone to summon and activate powerful minions. With Cyclone, you attack 6.16 times per second. Here's a list of things that happen as a result:
Two Holy Relics trigger roughly every .62 seconds
You gain and sustain virulence stacks (very easy to sustain 40) summoning the Agony Crawler
Summon and sustain Sentinels of Purity (against uniques, but you can also get them from your poison kils sometimes)
Gain 150 life and 14 mana on hit
Playstyle
The best way to get an idea for the build is to watch the videos above.
Simply pop your non-life flasks and Cyclone through packs - your minions will do the rest!
You can very easily face-tank high level bosses with this build (eg. I did a Minotaur at level 79 with under 5k hp facetanking).
The only somewhat annoying map mod for the build is physical reflect as your relics will one-shot themselves. To run this mod, just summon one relic at a time before entering each new pack. The relic and your agony crawler will mop up just fine.

Templar Hierophant
[3.8] PoE Freezing Pulse Hierophant Easy Build
Primary damage links in order of priority
Freezing Pulse -> Controlled Destruction -> Hypothermia -> Cold Penetration -> Increased Critical Strikes -> Added Cold Damage
Note that if you are not yet using a Soul Mantle you'll need to equip a Spell Totem gem to convert Freezing Pulse into a Totem; the support gems above are listed in order of priority so drop gems as needed to fit your current available links.
Offensive support 4-link
Frostbite -> Arcane Surge -> Increased Duration -> Spell Cascade
This should be your priority for your first spare 4-link. Remember to level your Arcane Surge gem such that the mana cost of Frostbite is equal or higher than the trigger for Arcane Surge to grant its buff effect. You want Frostbite to grant Arcane Surge every single time it is cast; maximum uptime is worth more than slightly increasing Arcane Surge's buff effect. Spell Cascade allows you to both increase Frostbite's cost (to give you more room for a higher level Arcane Surge) and allows you to blanket a much larger area without increasing Frostbite's cast time.
The reason this gem link does not contain Faster Casting is that it is intended to be socketed into Shaper gloves that contain the affix 'Socketed Gems are supported by level 18/20 Faster Casting' on them. Until you have such gloves, feel free to drop Increased Duration for Faster Casting.
For late-game purposes, Projectile Weakness will actually prove to be a stronger curse damage-wise than Frostbite, with two caveats; a much lower mana cost (making it harder to consistently trigger high-rank Arcane Surge) and a very high Dexterity requirement (155 Dexterity required for rank 20). As such, I recommend you stick with Frostbite from the outset and only in endgame once you have the flexibility and currency to start refining gear for minor stats like Dexterity, consider switching to Projectile Weakness. Just remember to keep an eye on your rank of Arcane Surge; you generally want to trigger that buff within 2 casts of your curse so that you are never without the Arcane Surge buff.
Offensive support 4-link
Frost Bomb -> Intensify -> Increased Area of Effect -> Increased Duration
This 4-link setup gives us access to Cold Exposure, an additional -25% Cold Resistance penalty that stacks on enemies on top of any other sources of penetration we are using. We can't actually deal damage with Frost Bomb, so we are only concerned with supports that improve this effect; Intensify and Increased Area give it a much larger radius and Increased Duration will improve how long the Frost Bomb remains to pulse its effect as well as how long the Cold Exposure lasts on enemies once applied.
Utility support 4-link
Steelskin -> Cast When Damage Taken -> Increased Duration -> (Your Choice)
I've actually started running Steelskin over Immortal call as of late; even though we do generate Endurance Charges in this build, we have a low base amount of physical mitigation, and do not rebuild our Endurance Charges that consistently after Immortal Call eats them, which can leave us a bit vulnerable to physical damage once Immortal Call wears off if we are not fully out of danger. Steelskin doesn't consume our Endurance Charges when it triggers, so we get to keep the additional physical mitigation at all times. The downside of Steelskin is that it requires a much higher rank of skill gem to really be useful later, so you'll want to level up Steelskin and Cast When Damage Taken to relatively high levels. I personally run a level 17 Cast When Damage Taken and a level 19 Steelskin, which allows Steelskin to absorb up to around 2k damage during its buff effect.
The final link here is yours to decide; Vaal Righteous Fire would be my recommendation as it is a big damage increase when available. Just make sure whatever you slot here is high enough rank that it is not triggered autoamatically by Cast When Damage Taken unless you want it to be.
Damage support 3-link
Cold Snap -> Cast When Damage Taken -> Bonechill
I run this 3-link setup in my weapon so that when enemies strike me, it will drop a Cold Snap chilling area under them that increases the cold damage they take thanks to Bonechill support. Keep Cast When Damage Taken at level 1 in this setup (which will allow you up to a level 7 Cold Snap) since we don't care how much damage Cold Snap itself does, so we want this to trigger as much as possible.
Templar Poe Every Spell Dmg Builder
Movement support 3-link
Flame Dash -> Lightning Warp -> Faster Casting
Not much to say here, you just want your movement skills to cast as fast as possible. If you don't find yourself using Lightning Warp much, consider replacing it with a Portal gem for the free portals.

[3.9] LiftingNerdBro's Tri/Quad Frostbolt Totems Hierophant - Strong League Starter!
- + Beginner and new league 'friendly' - the build is somewhat simple in design and easy to understand.
- + Great clear speed all the way up to tier 16 maps.
- + Easy to level.
- + Budget-friendly. The build works great with just rares until you can afford the suggested unique items later.
- - Relatively weak single target damage (still enough to kill Uber Elder with proper gear though)
Damage Setup
- Frostbolt, Spell Totem, Controlled Destruction, Inc. Critical Strikes, Hypothermia (5-link) & Cold Penetration (6-link).
Note: Consider swapping out Inc. Critical Strikes for Multiple Totems Support late game if you are above 55% effective crit chance without it anyway. This will allow you to summon 4 totems.
Defensive Setup
- Cast When Damage Taken (lvl 14), Steelskin (lvl 18), Lightning Golem (lvl 16) & Clarity.
Mobility, Damage & Regen
- Flame Dash, Faster Casting, Culling Strike & Arcane Surge (lvl 4-8).
Note: Despite Ancestral Bond, Flame Dash is still able to cull the enemy once it reaches <10% HP. This is because it still counts as a 'hit'. Culling Strike also increases the cast speed of Flame Dash if you get quality on it.
Utility
- Frost Bomb, Increased Duration & Increased Area of Effect.
Curse & Vaal Skills
- Vaal Righteous Fire, Frostbite, Arcane Surge (lvl 10) & Increased Duration.
Arcane Surge procs when a supported active skill-gem (Frostbite or Flame Dash in this case) is cast and ONLY if it passes the mana threshold requirement. A level 20 Frostbite, linked with Arcane Surge and Increased Duration has a mana cost of 77. This means you can level Arcane Surge to level 10 (in that setup) and ensure a reliable proc every time you cast your curse. Make sure to keep an eye on the mana threshold of the skill as you level.

- + Mind over Matter. Acrobatics/Phase Acrobatics.
- + Gearing is straightforward.
- + Not that many buttons to press.
- - Can't do Elemental Reflect. Even with pantheons or anti-reflect rings you will do too much damage and one-shot yourself to elemental reflect. Look out for this mod when doing maps. Reroll maps with reflect and don't choose maps with reflect if Zana presents you with an option (be careful for unid maps!)
This is a beginner-friendly, league-starter viable, solo-self-found viable, and comprehensive Storm Brand Inquisitor guide. The leveling section in this guide is meant to take players with a fresh install or in a fresh league and get them into maps and started on a powerful character. Interested readers can find gear priority, stat suggestions, mechanics explanations, and a whole bunch of links that might be useful for newer players.

Templar Poe Every Spell Dmg Build 1
Path of Building Link: https://pastebin.com/mmGEzF8a
[3.9] Beginner Friendly: Winter Orb Inquisitor [Uber Elder & Fast]
Is this build for you?
1. If you are looking for a Winter Orb build that has good enough single target damage for the end-game!2. A build capable of competing in the clear speed meta.
3. Boss kill potential despite being designed as a clear speed build.
4. A cheap yet very effective clear speed build.
5. If you prefer a build guide that has a video linked to it.
Ice Spear
- Ice Spear, Unleash, Controlled Destruction, Cold to Fire, Elemental Focus, Added Cold
Note:
Unleash is not shown in PoB but it will repeat the DPS displayed 3 times more with slightly less dmg (26%) making the single target DPS insane with the click of 1 button every 2-3 seconds. Do keep in mind that you need to stay a bit back so the projectiles reaches the second form as well as aiming the mouse as far away as possible to avoid spreading the projectiles. Also note that faster projectiles modifiers are bad as the second form won't happen as early which means you want 0% quality on your gem.
If you decide to use the higher budget items such as Yoke of Suffering, it is important to make sure Ice Spear can shock enemies, at which point Elemental Focus is replaced and Added Cold will take its place. If you then add another socket to the links it would be Slower Projectiles.
Winter Orb
- Winter Orb, Increased Duration, Combustion, Infused Channeling
Note:
Before you get yourself a Frostferno you're gonna want to change Infused Channeling or Duration for Cold to Fire. We are mainly clearing with this ability and making sure it applies Combustion on bosses for the insane single target damage provided by Ice Spear.
Auras
- Hatred
- Herald of Ash
- Herald of Purity
- Vaal Righteous Fire, Increased Duration
Note:
The Herald of Purity doesn't do much for us, but by having it linked in the Malachai's Artifice with Hatred being applied to these minions, they will then apply Cold damaged Elemental Equilibrium which significantly increases our fire damage dealt to enemies.
Vaal Righteous Fire is only used for increased damage vs bosses in general.
Mobility/Utility
- Leap Slam, Faster Attacks, Fortify
- Portal
CWDT
- Cast When Damage Taken, Immortal Call, Wave of Conviction
Note:
Make sure to keep CWDT at a low lvl I prefer lvl 3 and Immortal Call cannot be higher than lvl 5 with that in mind.
Wave of Conviction with Avatar of Fire allows us to make enemies take even more fire damage from our Winter Orb & Ice Spear!
Regarding Charges
Intuitive Leap is used to reach Overcharged however, vs bosses like Shaper and/or Uber Elder you can use something like Power Charge on Crit via Orb of Storms if you wish.
